Bank Guarantees & Financial SBLCs
Financial Instruments for Defined Business Commitments
Financial SBLCs and Bank Guarantees are instruments that may support financial commitments or credit enhancement. Potential use cases include funding arrangements, credit facilities, investment transactions, project finance and corporate financial commitments. The actual product, issuer, beneficiary, coverage and demand conditions must be confirmed before a proposal is made.
Potential Use Cases
Questions each use case should answer.
| Use case | Questions to answer |
|---|---|
| Funding arrangements | What obligation is being supported, who is the beneficiary and what form of instrument is requested? |
| Credit facilities | What are the lender’s written requirements, the covered obligations and the proposed validity period? |
| Investment transactions | What commitment must be supported and what instrument terms have the counterparties agreed? |
| Project finance | What project obligations, milestones, counterparties and documentation apply? |
| Corporate financial commitments | What obligation is covered, what triggers a demand and which institution must approve the wording? |
Potential Coverage
Not universal features.
Principal amount, interest, banking charges, legal costs and administrative charges are possible coverage areas. The scope of any instrument depends on the final wording, the underlying agreement, issuer requirements and beneficiary acceptance.
Risk and transparency note
An instrument may support a defined obligation or may be considered by a counterparty. It does not guarantee improved creditworthiness, funding or loan approval; those remain subject to the instrument and the decision of the relevant institution.

- Who is the beneficiary and what wording or format has it requested?
- What amount, currency, validity period and claim conditions are required?
- What documents support the underlying obligation?
